Concern
Sustainability is a new concept in the City of Camden. Community involvement in renewable energy, and other innovative sustainability tools is low. City government has demonstrated commitment to increasing sustainable initiatives citywide.
Camden must acknowledge and address the potential impacts of climate change, as increased temperatures, sea level rising, and intensifying storms, pose acute risks to the city. By 2030, average temperatures in Camden could be 3-7 degrees warmer and the surrounding waterways could be 5-10 inches higher. Hotter temperatures will increase public health risks and place further strains on infrastructure. And as sea levels rise there will be increased risk of flooding and intense storms. The challenge of climate change for Camden is two-fold; we must reduce our contribution to global warming and we must prepare for its inevitable effects.

Accomplishments
Congratulations Green Team!
In October 2013, the City of Camden became one of only 20 municipalities statewide to receive Sustainable Jersey silver level certification. To achieve certification, the City of Camden completed 29 sustainable actions ranging from adopting a complete streets program to implementing an energy conservation education and outreach initiative and developing a buy local campaign. Members of the Camden Green Team, including Camden SMART partners, traveled to Atlantic City on November 16th to accept the award at the annual Sustainable Jersey Awards Luncheon. At the luncheon, the City of Camden also received a $2,000 Sustainable Jersey Small Grant for capacity-building activities. Camden's Sustainable Jersey silver certification highlights the City's recent efforts to improve the quality of life of Camden residents through environmental change.
Prior to Camden achieving the Sustainable Jersey silver level certification, Camden received the bronze level certification.
